My Students

My school is a Title I school located in South Carolina. The school serves approximately 320 students. I also travel to a second school and teach approximately 200 students there as well. Of these students, approximately 85.4% meet the poverty index and 100% receive free or reduced-price lunch. My students come from a variety of backgrounds and many do not have access to art supplies, resources and experiences outside of school (art lessons, attending museums, etc.). This is my fourth year at this school, and these students are eager to learn and excited about art.

My Project

With a 3D printer, my students will get a peek into the world of 3D printing while using their art, math and science skills. I serve our entire school, so they will be able to expand their knowledge of 3D printing over their years here. We have been creating 3-dimensional projects in class with various materials. We want to move towards using plastic with a 3D printer. Today's technology changes rapidly, and I want to make sure my students are able to adapt to new ways of planning, prototyping, and creating.

With a 3D printer, my students will get hands-on experience of 3D printing while expanding their academic and artistic abilities.

This allows them to get a first look at what is possible and how to design things with purpose as well as aesthetics. I look forward to making this project possible for my students. I know they will absolutely love it now and for years to come.
