3D and 2D Explorations Through Ceramics and Painting
Help me give my students the opportunity to further their explorations in the realm of 3D and 2D art by being able to utilize clay, paint, and drawing tools they have not used before.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am a 1st yr. teacher in Detroit, MI. My students have many attributes that make them simply, amazing. All of my students, kindergarten through 4th, have exceeded expectations thus far in terms of showing excitement, respect, and integrity towards our studio space. My students come everyday ready to make art despite what else they may have going on, and show genuine interest and care for what they are making. As an art teacher, seeing your students eyes light up when using a new medium they may have not used before is all I could ask for.
Many of my students have never used oil pastels, or pastels of any kind.
The same goes for clay, model magic, tempera or acrylic paint, printmaking, or even watercolor. The list goes on.
With that being said, I would be delighted to be able to provide larger quantities of these mediums for them to delve into. I see different classes each half of the week, with one group of k-4 Monday through Wednesday, and a different group of k-4 Thursday through Friday. Their energy and curiosity towards the arts is something I want to flourish instead of diminish. Help me make that possible!
My Project
My students are absolutely enthralled by using clay and clay tools, as many students in inner city schools do not have the chance to work with certain materials anywhere else. One of the things they have not used before are clay rollers, which would help them tremendously in their creations. Especially rollers that leave textures and imprints, as my 4th grade is in their sculpture unit currently. Painting is something we do often, whether it is mixing watercolor and oil pastels, using watercolor to create a background for a final project, or using it as media of choice when learning about different artist movements. My students have not had the chance to use tempera paint because of uniforms. So, tempera cakes would be an incredible asset to furthering my students exploration when it comes to painting with different mediums.
