This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My philosophy is simple: Make Learning Fun! I aspire to make the school library THE place students WANT to be!
I believe without a doubt that my school library is the heart of my school.
I have worked tirelessly to create a library media center that invites students to learn as much as we can with the time we are given. My school is considered a low-income school, 82% of my students qualify for "free or reduced price lunch." I work extremely hard to ensure my students have access to the same types of resources that many students in neighboring, wealthier school districts take for granted.
My Project
As I stated earlier, my philosophy is simple: Make Learning Fun! I work to create learning experiences that are enhanced with technology that meet not only CCSS, but also Library and Technology Standards. Clearly today’s society is deeply rooted in technology. I have incorporated QR Codes, Green Screen Videos, Coding, Blogging, Skype, Google Hangouts, and the use of iPads into my library lessons. In addition, I have created a MakerSpace with a 3d printer, electrical circuit activities, legos, and robots. This MakerSpace allows my students to take risks and own their learning. During a field trip my students were able to witness the power of 360 pictures and videos. I would like them to be able to have access to a camera to create their own pictures to share with the world. A 360 camera would be the perfect addition to the existing MakerSpace in the library, allowing them to create new pictures to explore.
360 Pictures and Virtual Reality are some of the newest additions to the technology landscape.
Instead of only viewing other people's videos and pictures through a Virtual Reality viewer, I want my students to create their own to share with the world. My school has an edible garden and butterfly garden on site. One way my students will use the 360 camera will be to create pictures of what plants, animals, and insects can be found in our gardens to share with other students throughout the world.
