My students need the materials necessary to experience the solar system through music, art, and interactive hands-on learning. The items include a motorized model, floor puzzle, a CD, and papier mache and paints.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Art, music, and hands-on learning will captivate the curiosity of the students.
We live in a small rural town with about 15,000 people.
Our school serves roughly 700 students. We have a 92 percent free and reduces lunch population. We are faced with the very difficult decision of how to trim almost 3 million dollars from our already bare bones budget. We are very sad to be saying goodbye to our music teacher and our librarian. But music and interactive learning can still be part of our curriculum with your help!
My Project
An electronic solar system model will begin our unit by inspiring questions and curiosity throughout the classroom. We will sing and dance with an interactive astronomy music CD and book. We will write a solar system report that includes a paragraph on the sun and the eight planets that waltz around it. We will use black construction paper and oil pastels to draw the orbit of the planets and the asteroid belt. Our culminating activity will be a paper mache model of our solar system.
Learning can be fun!
Students will be excited to come to school and learn about the solar system and the world around them. Students will not forget the wondrous journey through space in this month long unit that integrates reading, writing, art, music, and best of all interactive hands-on learning.
