Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In the middle of Nebraska, you will find a school that serves 350 second and third graders. The school is 75% Hispanic with 50% English Language Learners. This school also has 88% of its students who qualify for free and reduced-price lunch.

These numbers are why I love teaching the 2nd graders at this school!

Our students face many challenges daily both in and out of the classroom. I know I cannot change what happens outside the door of my classroom, but I want to inspire my students as much as I can while they are inside my four walls. I want to prepare capable and lifelong learners for challenges and opportunities for the future.

My Project

Many people believe that students understand better by hands-on-learning. I believe this as learning hands-on is how I learned best when I was younger. My students will get the opportunity to learn with many creative items such as building blocks, wooden blocks, magnetics, and many more! They also get to organize and be responsible for their own materials that they have chosen to use. Being able to have the understanding of being responsible at seven and eight years old is very important. The idea of STEM bins comes from incorporating Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. As all of these components come together students are having fun with learning! These materials can also help many students calm down or help with behaviors if they can go create something to take their mind off of the problem.

Providing my students with STEM bins will give them hands-on-learning experiences that they usually don't get.

I believe that letting students learn hands-on is beneficial. They get to see, hear, and physically touch and move the project. These students also get to learn to be responsible, which is one of our school's main rules.

My students will love getting hands-on with their learning!
