Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach 7th grade world history in Hayward, California. We are a Title I school, with the majority of our students on the free/reduced price lunch program. The majority of students at my school have never been outside of their community. Over the course of the year, the students will learn about the culture and geography of many places, including North Africa, China, Arabia, Japan, and Central and South America. I try to bring in many items to allow the students to experience these cultures as much as possible. Last year, I brought in some dates for the students to taste because we were studying the Arabian desert. I had no idea what a huge impact food would have! Every student remembered that lesson in vivid detail! That is why I am requesting the "Around the World" video series. This is a collection of four entertaining 25-30 minute videos featuring three easy-to-prepare recipes from different regions of the world. Giving students a visual and hands-on lesson that they can taste is going to really bring history to life!
