Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work at a public charter school that serves a community of students who mostly live in the surrounding projects. They have limited experiences outside the classroom. They enjoy coming to school every day in order to feel safe, successful, and cared-for.

My students have so many varied interests and it's lovely to see what motivates them.

The students here grow up together and treat each other like family. There parents definitely set that example for them. Furthermore, the families here truly value education and have a lot of respect for the school, teachers, and our mission to educate their children.

These 8 year olds work so hard every day to achieve their goals in all the different subjects that are taught in elementary school.

My Project

My students love to use technology. They have never seen anything printed in 3-D. In fact, they are fascinated by the fact that paper comes out of the laser printer and it's still warm. I would like them to have the same access to technology as students in schools that have more resources. I know that students have varied interests and strengths. The philosophy that my school follow is that we always try to find a way for each student to shine as an individual. Using technology could very well be the thing that gives a student the confidence in themselves that was missing during other academic subjects.
