3-D Fun Clay Exploration for 4th and 5th Grade!

Help me give my students an opportunity to work in 3-D and work hands on with air dry white clay! They will sculpt and mold small bowls or figures that they can let dry and paint.

My Students

I am the luckiest teacher! My students are awesome! They are creative and curious learners who love to experiment using new art materials and techniques. My students love working on hands-on projects that challenge them.

Over a third of our student population receives free or reduced-price lunch.

We have two magnet programs: ELL (English language learners) and emotionally behavioral disabled students.

Our art room is always buzzing with creativity. We use nature, history, and our own and other cultures to inspire our art-making.

My Project

I always connect my art lesson plans to the elementary state and national art standards. I like to create lesson plans that give my students a chance to use many different art materials while learning about the art different cultures.

If we were to be gifted these wonderful clay materials I would teach the students about the art of the American Southwest and Mexican ceramics.

We would use hand-building and coil techniques to create small bowls and then we would paint them in traditional Southwest or Mexican designs or motifs. I think students would be very engaged in this project because I have not been able to offer a clay project before.
