Have you ever drawn something on paper and wish it could come to life? With the invention of the 3-D printer my students can do just that! They can draw out their design, create it in 3-D software and print their project to take home. Finally, the digital world becomes real for the students.
My students are very creative, they love to do hands-on projects.
They like to build things and use the computers to design and express their creativity. They enjoy the challenges that my class presents to them. They are fascinated and motivated by new technology, and they want to be a part of the ever-changing world they live in today. Meadow Hill is a very inviting school, the students here are welcoming and friendly. Meadow Hill has a 40% Free/Reduced price Lunch rate, and so we see a lot of students that don't have a much and need some encouragement to see all the great opportunities out there in science and technology.
My Project
The students in my classroom are designing objects in a 3-D software. The projects are as simple as a cube all the way up to a tic-tac toe board that when printed will actually function as a toy. With this requested 3D printer they will be able to design an object and then actually get to take it home.
My class has always been the one class where they did a lot of good, creative work, but when they walk away they have nothing solid to show their friends and family.
If we had a 3-D printer, all my students would have a project they can be proud of because they worked really hard on designing it.
