Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Everyday I am greeted by the best students with firm handshakes and clear loud "Good morning Ms. J." Everyday I show up for the good mornings, smiles, and conversations that will take place. It isn't always fun and games but my students work extremely hard to grasp new concepts and solidify what they already have learned. Even through the challenges they continue to persevere, continuously striving to be more.
In a class where disabilities do not set limitations, bars are set high, and where we strive for excellence, my students eagerly await to take on any kind of challenge.
I love to see their faces when given new challenges. The curiosity in their eyes, the tiny smile that starts to set in, and energy that fills the room, are reasons why it is important to continue to bring new and exciting opportunities to my students!
My Project
Science had always been my favorite subject in school, well until high school. When I became a teacher I had all these fun ideas and activities but I soon was overwhelmed with STEAM and Coding. None of which I was prepared for.
Can you image a student's face when it first codes a robot to move across a carpet square or when it first zips through the maze they just created?
It's absolutely priceless! With the Dash Robot and Sphero robots I'll be able to bring innovative ways to use robots in the classroom. Through story walks (or robot glides), reading and creating code, and understanding sequencing I will be able to incorporate these bots in meaningful ways in my classroom. My students with disabilities struggle to code on a traditional computer. Making coding more tangible may open new skills and confidence in my students never seen before.
I can not wait for the day when our robots arrive. My students will be smiling from ear to ear because of your generosity and believing in our ABILITIES not disabilities.
