Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are bilingual learners. They learn two languages through the content areas not only from me but from each other. Almost all of my students are from high poverty families and several are homeless. In addition, I have numerous students who are immigrants and others who are fleeing the loss of their schools and homes in Puerto Rico.
We are part of a high-poverty, urban middle school that specializes in technology and communication.
Despite the fact we face a number of socio-economic challenges, we move forward together.
My Project
Second semester is always difficult in terms of materials. By this time we have completed a number of projects, and materials such as pencils, markers, and construction paper have run low or have run out completely.
Please help us by replenishing the supplies that have run out - pencils, markers, and construction paper.
Since my students are second language learners, I focus on vocabulary. The supplies I have requested will be used for vocabulary development. Students will create illustrated posters to develop their academic English, science, and health vocabulary. My classroom budget for the entire year is just $100.00 and I easily spend 6 times that amount out of pocket for classroom necessities.
My students love projects which allow them to show their creativity. Any donation will help us continue to do hands-on projects in English, science , and health classes.
