This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach traditional band at a Title I School in Durham, NC. My students are ethnically and socio-economically diverse, and during the course of the day, they come together and form a musical ensemble that represents their rich cultural backgrounds. The majority of my students are not able to purchase instruments, instrument support material and accessories, and recording equipment of any type. Therefore, the classroom, in many cases serves as the only source of instrument support, practice space, and digital recording space.
My Project
For this project, this set of instrument support materials is geared towards the LG's Band needs for the 2nd semester. The band program is still trying to re-coup instrument accessory losses that occurred during the Covid-19 online learning time period.
In this project, there are a number of essential items that are needed to keep the band room safe and effective.
The reeds will be used to provide support for the 2nd semester beginning band students. The power strips will be used to ensure that the electrical systems stay safe and orderly. The instrument support supplies like the mouthpieces, neck straps and instrument stands will ensure that the students have what they need to keep their instruments functional and in proper playing condition. The desktop speakers will give the students the ability to playback band arrangements and digital support recordings.
