I have 79 sixth graders that range in ability. We change classes for Math, Science, and Language Arts. We are a Title I school with a small group of ESL students in our sixth grade group. Of this terrific group of students, we have thirteen who are served in our exceptional children's program. We also have several academically gifted students that are served in either one subject or both. This particular group of students have their PE, Music, and Art/Creative Movement class first thing in the mornings. These extremely active sixth graders must then sit through three different classes before then heading back to homeroom for Social Studies and Leader in Me time before lunch! Imagine all that sitting! There will be one more time period after lunch for enrichment and intervention for all of our students.
This group of students brings a lot of energy to the classroom.
They love projects and working together. In my classroom, I teach Science and Social Studies, so collaboration is key. I would love to offer an environment that is more conducive to flexible grouping and seating for the type of movement they love.
My Project
This seating will be added to the seating already procured in the first stage. Students are excited to come into the classroom and choose a seat to be active listeners in my classroom. Sitting all day is difficult for anyone. Imagine being a sixth grader sitting through several different class periods.
Help my students to increase not only their active listening, but improve their posture and blood flow to the brain.
Flexible seating completely changes how the classroom looks and how students function and participate in their education. I am excited to offer students in my classroom this opportunity to learn and grow.
