Mrs. Donaldson from Florissant MO is requesting supplies through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need an area rug, T stools, Dorm chair, and other seating options to maximize their education by meeting their needs and giving them the opportunity to take ownership of their learning.

Wow! 23, seven and eight year old children taking responsibility and ownership of their learning! The ability to learn and practice how to effectively communicate, and become teachers to peers at such a young age? The possibilities and dreams are endless in our classroom!
My kids are amazing!
The obstacles they have endured could break the spirit of many adults, but my students are impeccable and have dreams and goals. 100% free lunch, flood victims, and community unrest are only a few obstacles my children have endured recently. Whatever challenges they face, they know that they have a safe, caring, loving classroom always available. So much has been taken from their childhood and I want to give them the ability to make choices and meet whatever need they have for the day. After researching flexible seating (alternative seating), I have started to implement this extremely effective strategy. I am only capable of providing so much financially but with what little I have provided towards flexible seating, the excitement and joy on their faces is worth everything I can give. When driving to work I've seen dumpsters at many homes, I want to provide a comfortable environment that might not be currently available at home.
My students come to our classroom wanting to learn! Imagine choosing to sit on a carpet, stool, or chair with a classmate who is enduring the same obstacles as you, but have the same passion for learning. My students have taken ownership of their learning! Students can often times be another student's best teacher. They have conversations with peers that they might not otherwise choose to engage with, if not for flexible seating. They teach one another and I am there to provide guidance, stability, and direction. With the materials I am requesting my kids will be able to sit comfortably, without obstacles, and not on a cold tile floor, and become engaged in academics, while building relationships with one another. Flexible seating not only provides students with an alternative way of learning, but provides them with opportunities to meet their emotional needs. My students may choose to cuddle on a chair and get lost in a book, or even take a nap during recess, if that is what they need.
My chairs and stools will give my students the opportunity to build much needed language and communication skills and feel empowered by their ability to become a teacher to their classmates and friends.
We will build a community of trust, respect and relationships. These students amongst many others in the future will be given hope and the knowledge to know that some circumstances are out of their control, but with the power of an education anything is possible.
