This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are 7 to 8-year-olds with a mix of students with special education requirements and students at general ed level.
We are a Title I school, and the students come from low-income homes, but they are my wonderful learners.
They come in every day with challenges, and I am excited to make their day better. Some students in the class deal with homelessness, some have to fend for themselves at home while parents are working, and some live with other family members who are raising them. My kids deserve the best, and I want to give it to them. Unfortunately, I can’t do it alone.
My Project
I am a second-year teacher that is being moved from Fifth grade to second grade. Of course this means the resources are completely different. This year I want to give the students more chances to enhance their reading. That’s where time for kids comes in.
Times for kids is a magazine full of nonfiction reading material that not only includes current events but also connects to our science and history standards.
Each week the students will receive a new issue with high-interest readings and activities to complete. We can use this in small groups and as morning work. I think this resource will be a great way to introduce some amazing concepts to my wonderful second-grade group.
