2nd Grade Sweethearts Need a Cozy Rug and Learning Materials!
My students need a rug for their reading corner! They also need a reliable pencil sharpener, a pencil pouch to hold their math toolkit, and dry erase boards and markers to actively participate in lessons.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My sweet second graders need a class that feels like home. Most of my students will qualify for free lunch and may have moved more than once before 2nd grade for one reason or another. I want to provide my students with their own materials and a welcoming environment in order to make our class feel like home and give them the consistency that they need. Our Title I school is located in an urban environment and many of our school families benefit from community donations, food pantries, and partner organization donations. My families are unable to provide a lot of the back to school supplies needed in order to have a fully functioning classroom. This project could get our classroom started!
My Project
My goal this year is to make my classroom feel like home for my students. I know that a rug will be used daily as a place to read with a friend, collaborate with a partner, and listen to others during class meeting.
A classroom rug is the perfect meeting place.
Flexible wobble cushions will help me reach my goal of creating a comfortable learning environment for each student.
My students would greatly benefit from their own dry erase board and marker in order to actively participate in lessons. I will be able to quickly assess understanding by clearly seeing their work. The pencil pouch will hold their math tools so that they are easily accessible when needed.
