My class is full of creative, caring, and hard-working students. These are kids who are willing to work hard despite coming from difficult home situations. Our district recently had significant cuts to funding due to budget cuts, and finding money for classroom supplies and equipment is extremely difficult.
We are a Title I school with 100% of the students receiving free breakfast and lunch at school.
Many have a history of trauma in their lives and need a space where they can feel comfortable as they learn.
This project will help me to better teach my students how to read. I have recently moved into second grade and need to add younger books to my library and guided reading groups. Eager readers such as the second graders in my class need books that are at the the level they are at. Unfortunately not all my students are at grade level, therefore I need more stories at a younger level to meet the needs of my struggling readers.
When students read books at their level, they feel successful and are ready to learn.
Without appropriate books these struggling readers become frustrated and lose interest in learning. Please help me in preventing this.
