My students learn best by being hands on. They need to have fun to get the most out of the classroom.
I have 25 2nd grade students in our classroom.
My school is made up of low income families. My students are excited to learn. They look forward to coming school and want to succeed. My school is located in a urban community. A majority of my families are one parent households.
My Project
My students will be using these games to build upon the 2nd grade math skills. We will use the bingo telling time game whole group and play as a class. The whiteboards will help students work in whole class lessons as well as small group/individual work time working on adding and subtracting using a ten frame as a visual model. The calendar math set will be used every day as we do our math calendar routine. Students will gather at the carpet space and we will have a student lead the activities. My students will learn skills in telling time, addition, subtraction. They will also get daily practice in the month of the year, day of the week and the date. There is a daily problem of the day incorporated with the calendar that will engage students in thinking skills needed to be good at mathematics.
Donations to this project will allow my students the hands on game playing that they need to be successful at learning math in 2nd grade.
My students will gain the skills in telling time, addition, subtraction and money. These games will make learning math fun!
