Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are good at reading but I want to get their math skills just as sharp. These materials will help my students master math objectives and will help create a successful feeling inside each child. They will also get them better prepared for 3rd grade.
I have 25 second grade students in my class this year.
Our school is located in the inner city and we are a high minority, low income school. Most of our children will be first generation college students when they graduate in 2025. As a public charter school, our goal is to get our children prepared to climb the mountain not just too college, but beyond college and into the real world.
My Project
My students will use these materials in small group time and in independent workstation time. Doing individualized learning in the classroom is helping each child learn at their own level and these materials will reinforce the teaching I am doing. I am working very hard to make sure my kids are learning every skill and I feel like these materials will be an additional extension in the classroom. The manipulatives I'm requesting will help give my students a hands-on experience to help them understand the skill better. The workbooks will give my students more time practicing the skills and the workstation folders will reinforce all those skills when they work in independent station time.

The feeling they get when they finally understand a concept is difficult to explain, but these types of materials make them want to work harder and they end up mastering objectives and passing assessments. This ends up bringing them so much joy and pride so they continue to work hard so they can experience it again and again.
