My name is Katrina Smith and I am a first-year teacher in Fairbanks, Alaska.
My students have been fully remote since the first day of school in August. My school is also Title I due to the high number of low-income families and students on free/reduced-price lunch. As remote teaching/learning continues, I am discovering that many of my students do not have the bare essentials to learn from home. Many do not have the means to get paper, pencils, and other school materials. I would love to deliver school supplies, snacks, and books to my students. When students return to the building, I will also be providing snacks for students to take home. Many of my students cannot afford snacks or even lunch items during the school day. These simple items will make their day and school year so much brighter.
Thank you so much for your time.
My Project
Many of my students do not have basic school materials. This makes learning from home very challenging. It discourages them from learning when they do not have the necessary materials. By giving my students basic materials, they will be more engaged and enjoy the various art, reading, writing, and math activities I have created.
By giving my students books, they will be given the ability to read any time or anywhere.
Many of my students do not have books at home or the technology to read at home. As an educator, I need to get books into students' hands during this crucial developmental time.
These materials will bring so much joy and happiness to my students. These students live with very little and love the most basic things.
