I currently teach 2nd grade at a Title I school. I teach the whole 2nd-grade technology skills. The students are learning how to code and how to use all the Google Apps such as Slides, Docs, and Forms. My students are hard working and dedicated to learning all they can. Unfortunately, they don't have the resources they need to be successful. The majority of my students live in poverty. Our school has a 78% FARMS rate. That mean 78% of the students can't afford to purchase a lunch daily. That said, they love to learn and want to be challenged daily. I always love to see how motivated they are in all subjects.
My class is full of students that have very little background knowledge of how to use technology.
The majority of the students I teach are newcomers or first generation Americans. They are lacking the simple background knowledge that they need to have a level playing field with the other students that have parents at home that can support them in the English language as well as the culture. They have so many questions and are so eager to learn every moment.
My Project
Getting a pair of earbuds and a mouse in each student’s hands will make a huge impact on their learning. Students have not used a mouse to navigate on the Chromebooks. I would like to give every child the chance to use a mouse and earbuds. The mouse is so important for students to learn how to navigate on the computer. The earbuds will help the students in so many ways. They will be more focused and be less distracted by their classmates. Now they will be coding and have difficultly hearing the instructions or video tutorials because their neighbor is play their video too loud. These basic tools will make a huge difference for them to learn quickly and efficiently on their Chromebooks.
