My students walk in ready to deliver and take on the tasks of the class. When they are all here, I can confidently say, "All of my favorite students are here today," as they boast about who, if any, is the actual favorite.
I teach at a K-12 school where students readily accept one another as they are.
Their camaraderie impresses me daily and allows us to dive deep into authentic learning experiences. My students' exposure to opportunities is limited in our distant, rural setting. As a result, the students love novel, new information, and are filled with curiosity.
My Project
We need a printer. Our classroom is a hub of activity with lots of diverse activities. We manage most of our activity with good old-fashioned visual communication. Sketches, cave drawings, notes- on napkins, chalkboards, and whiteboards galore.
Sometimes we just need to scan an idea to replicate a version for other collaborators in our school or classroom.
Other times, I just need to communicate technical information, in color, to make things easier to comprehend.
If it were up to me, every classroom would have a color printer. When you are forced to live in a world communicating to our youth without color, you can't help but be jealous of the orientation pamphlet at your part-time job, the Craigslist ad hanging on the community bulletin board, and even the menu you order your Philly cheese steak from.
