Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
One of my most favorite moments as a teacher is when I see and hear my students sharing their favorite part of their book. My second most favorite moment is when I see other students pick up the book their friends suggested! They are their own best advertisers for books.
My current cohort is an extremely tight knit group.
They really work together to be the best. They are supportive of each other and really work to reach their goal of attending college. I often see them sharing academic resources to help them be better. I see them offering help to each other to understand the material they are learning in their core classes.
My students are an amazing group of young people. What is the most amazing about the is their resiliency. Throughout their education they have experiences so many obstacles, mainly not having enough resources. One main resource is a library with a plethora of books.
My Project
For our reading class, I often suggest books to my students, but they lose interest because the books are not only challenging but what they are reading also does not relate to their lives. In education we want to give our students information and material that is relatable.
These are the books that my students choose.
They were so excited about the possibility of getting a book THEY selected, the students in 223 have been excited. They are anxiously waiting for the new book they will be able to have an read. Having access to their book of their choice will continue to develop in them a love for seeking more books and knowledge. With the funding of these books chosen by my students, the majority will have a book they will enjoy this year!
