Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Teaching is the hardest thing I have ever done. The number of obstacles to effective instruction that the other teachers in my school and I face on a daily basis can often feel disheartening and impossible to overcome. That being said, if there is anyone that I am willing to work my hardest for, it's my students.
Living in one of the most impoverished cities in Florida, many of my students have faced extreme adversity in their communities and homes, and continue to work extremely hard in school every day.
My kids are hard-working, intelligent, and creative young adults who seek access to the best education and quality of life for themselves and their families. Their constant determination is impressive, and their work and constant growth warrants rewards and opportunities from which my students are often unjustly closed off.
Despite the lack of access that my students face, they continue to overcome obstacles placed in their way. In order for my students to continue to make strides in their education, they will need to have the opportunity to interact with quality technology that is so commonplace in today's workforce and everyday life.
My Project
Having these chromebooks in our classroom will allow my students to take their learning to the next level. By interacting with technology, my students will be more prepared to navigate both their work in the classroom as well as their world outside of school.
Access to online learning resources such as research, e-books, and teaching platforms are an integral piece of any high school English and Language Arts class.
More specifically, having chromebooks in the classroom will allow me to facilitate Nearpod presentations that make the lessons more engaging. Through the interactive technology of Nearpod, my students would have the chance to explore the world through Virtual Reality lessons and 3D objects. I would also be able to better assess student understanding and differentiate instruction in real time through students' independent responses to target their specific needs. Having chromebooks will ensure that each student will have access to the texts that we read since we rarely have a class set of stories and almost never have individual books. With every student being able to interact with the text, each person will feel more confident and able to actively participate in class discussions and collaborate with their classmates.
My students will also be using the chrome books to create their own projects such as videos, slide shows, and research papers. Overall, access to this technology will give my students important and transferrable skills such as research skills, problem solving skills, and presentation skills that will help them grow as learners and citizens of the world.
