I am a science teacher at a public K-8 school. This is an alternative program, meaning that we try to teach to the whole child, with lots of parent involvement, small group instruction, and contact within the community. I teach using a hands-on, inquiry-based curriculum to the students in grades 1 - 6, reaching approximately 220 students each week. Our small district of 5 schools has been fortunate enough to have just completed a district-wide modernization program. Ours was the final project (and the biggest undertaking). We have this fabulous science lab/culinary area for our students, teachers and parents. In the media area, we have a great television, but alas, no VCR or DVD player which I often use, to enhance the lessons about which I am teaching. This means I must take the students back to their home classroom to use the class' equipment. I am hoping to receive this small piece of equipment to make it easier to show a relevant program within the confines of the science lab.
