Michael, Ciara, Chris, Indhira, Ezekiel, Perla, Liz, Sam, Jasmine, and Nuvia have seen the difference that computers have made in the classroom and have a request for a few more for our classroom so that everyone can have access to one when we need them.
The students have all been part of my classroom and have seen the difference of having computers available to use every day for our assignments, quizzes, exams, and research. They noticed the difference it made when we did not have to look for a computer cart or change plans because the 3 carts were already reserved by other teachers, or someone was in dire need of technology and we changed our plans to help them out. These students have learned the value of having technology available daily, and have also seen the problem of not having enough in our classroom when everyone is present in class.
Using computers is a 21st-century skill that is needed for college and careers. Not being able to use technology is a hindrance for anyone. Thanks to the Google platform, group work and teamwork are easier to accomplish and the abundance of apps that are available make learning fun. Students learn to find their own information and use the technology even faster than I can teach them because they have it in front of them almost daily. These additional Chromebooks will make it possible for all of my students to have access to a computer when we are using the technology.
In Their Own Words
We want our teacher to have a full set of Chromebooks so that we can all work simultaneously. This project will give us a total of 141 Chromebooks - 1 classroom sets of 30, 1 classroom set of 40 that stay in specific rooms and 3 mobile carts (25, 28, 18) to be shared by everyone else.
We are sharing about the difference that technology is making in the classroom. We are also looking for additional ways for us to use the technology. We are spreading the word about how much technology increases the amount of things we can do and are asking now for classes in typing and how to get the most out of the technology that we have. We are looking for ways to use technology to work together even when we are not in the same room with each other.
This project is important because we want to be ready for the real world. Books, paper, and pencil are important, but so is using a computer, emails, applications, creating and sharing documents, forms and videos. We want to be prepared for our future.
