Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have the opportunity to support and inspire 60 students who come to school, every day, in the hopes of learning, no less, about academics, but also about themselves. One hundred percent of my students' native language is not English, and they work very hard every day to learn a second language.
My English language learners' (ELLs) overall learning styles vary greatly.
Some of my students read and write fluently in their native language and/or English, while others come in with very limited literacy skills and require creative approaches for their transition to the English language.
My Project
Each and everyday, I do my best to prepare my students for the ever changing world that is ahead of them. In particular, getting technology in their hands. Unfortunately, due to many financial restrictions in our school and district, we do not have extra funds beyond the basics.
With the ever-changing and competitive global marketplace ahead of our students, they need to be prepared.
By bringing an iPad and iPad case into my classroom, my students will have the opportunity to be exposed to current and useful technology. The iPad would be used for research, projects and reading/writing intervention, just to name a few. This essential tool is so important to our students and would really make a difference in their preparation for the future.
