I co-teach fifth grade in Milford, Michigan. Our district is underfunded as compared to neighboring districts in the county. In addition, statewide funding has been reduced which hinders the district from purchasing innovative teaching materials.
We wish to enrich the learning space by providing students with flexible seating options.
As fifth grade classroom teachers, our goal is to create a learning space where students feel like the space is designed for productivity and creativity. Students learn best when they are comfortable and have options to work in cooperative groups.
We have chosen two tables that would be used in our learning space. With these tables, we would be expanding our flexible seating options. Currently, we offer students flexible seating with items we found in garage sales and our personal basements. We are ready to use more modern learniture in the classroom. These tables would be used daily for student to learn and grow. The ability to easily move the table allows us to maximize the learning space daily. Students may work at the tables in cooperative groups, or for their independent practice. These two table will allow us to offer more exciting learning opportunities for students.
