Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Have you ever been asked to finish a job without having the right tools? My students are being asked to compete with students that have unlimited access to technology.
We are a third grade class at a public school in the inner city.
My students come to school ready to learn. Many of them come from 1 parent homes. 100% of my class qualifies for free breakfast and lunch. They love to read and will for the first time really start to explore the nonfiction world through research projects and nonfiction text.
My Project
We need 2 Kindle Fire tablets and 2 protective cases to supplement my single iPad tablet in our technology center. This year my students are being asked to research on the Internet and to read nonfiction text. The Kindle Fire tablet is an excellent resource for both reading and listening to books through the FREETIME subscription. In their downtime, my students would also be able to watch educational videos, and play educational games.
Imagine the pride my struggling students will feel when the nonfiction world is opened up to them.
With the audio book function on the Kindle Fire my students will be able to listen to higher level texts for information, without being embarrassed that they aren't able to read it independently.
