Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This year, I have the honor to work with and learn from a group of spunky, energetic little humans. They are incredibly positive and always look out for one another. A few new members have joined the family this school year and they have been welcomed with open arms and a helpful demeanor; introducing them to all the great things this school has to offer them.
We have been in school for two weeks, and these kids are so excited to begin working with technology.
On Friday, our Technology specialist rolled in with our computer cart. We were given two options: (1) Use old PCs converted to Chromebooks that freeze and require multiple restarts or (2) Use touchscreen chromebooks, but share 3 to a computer, because there aren't enough. These little humans did not complain about either option. They are simply ecstatic to begin their work with technology.
They are so excited and motivated to learn! I am lucky to work with such a great group of kids!
My Project
A large majority of students do not have access to computers or technology at home. School is their only means to learning and practicing with technology to develop necessary 21st century skills. These fourth graders have an unmeasured passion for learning and continuously strive to engage with more meaningful, real world events that impact their lives directly.
Having access to newer, working computers will give them the experiences required to be successful adults!
Students are too often sharing or working with computers that do not work.
Additionally, a subscription to TIME for Kids magazine will give students access to current events at their level, making them critical thinkers and fully prepared for college and career experiences.
