My Students
I work at a low social-economic school in South-East Houston. My students are all minority students with 100% of the school’s population being on free and reduced lunch.
Hurricane Harvey hit our community at the beginning of the school year and damaged 3/4 of our technology equipment in the gym.
With all the inclement weather lately in Houston, it has been extremely hard to be an effective teacher in my classroom without technology. Funding has been reduced at my school this school year and I am trying to find a way to replace most of the damaged technology equipment in order to finish up the school year successfully.
Having most of the technology replaced at our school would help our Physical Education Program become one of the best departments in the surrounding area. For most of the students here, the use of technology is very limited. My goal is to prepare all 21st century learners attending H.M.S for the real world by the use of technology.
My Project
My project will make a huge difference in each of my students' lives because these are low social-economic students who are on free or reduced lunch that are less fortunate than the other surrounding school districts. After the Hurricane Harvey devastation, it's been hard adjusting back to our normal educational setting with limited technology.
This project is extremely important to the instruction my students will receive this year and upcoming years at Hartman.
I work extremely hard each day in class to teach every one of my students the importance of technology usage. For them to learn and be prepared for the next level, this equipment, such as the drone, the PS4 console & games, the printer, the projector, portable screen, the megaphones, and the speaker is critical in their foundation stage of learning about technology.
I would like for all my current and future students at H.M.S. to have the best middle school experience possible. I believe I work in one of the best school districts in the city of Houston, the Houston Independent School District, and my students should have the opportunity to be expose to various technology before entering high school!
