21st Century Music - Replacing Tech that Harvey Took
My students need to be able to not only hear good music through quality speakers, but also to be able to print sheet music to perform since we live in a digital age.
Less than one year after opening our new school building, it was devastated with more than six inches of water due to hurricane Harvey. Many of my students lost their homes, all their belongings and are still living in hotels, RV's or with family members. When they get to make music together, I can see the stress of living with such hardships fade from my students' faces, even if only for an hour a day.
My students love to express themselves through music.
Making and experiencing quality music lets them express the feelings they might have a hard time otherwise putting into words. For some of my students, my class is the bright spot in their entire day.
My Project
My students are growing up in a world where CD's have become obsolete and digital music is how they interact with music.
Computer speakers are not able to adequately convey the raw power and beauty of music.
We are requesting new speakers for our choir room to let students experience music as it was intended - filling the whole room with sound.
We also need a printer and the ink to go with it to print music that students will be learning and experiencing in class and in our community.
Our community was devastated by Hurricane Harvey and our school district and parents are overwhelmed trying to replace everything that is needed. DonorsChoose.org has been a blessing to our school and district.
