I am so lucky to be the teacher of 5 amazing students this year. I teach Emotional and Behavioral Disabilities in a Title I School. Students in our program are coming to us because, despite being incredibly bright, they are having struggles in their general education classroom because of behavioral and emotional concerns.
Almost all of my students have been alive less than 10 years and have endured more than most adults I've ever met.
They are bright, triumphant, creative and hilarious. Many have experienced trauma and adversity - but they are also beginning to experience support, consistency, success and confidence like they have never felt before.
30% of students in our school receive free or reduced lunch. For many students, they have become school averse and no longer think of school as a joyful place. It's my hope that by the time they get to us, our classroom is a safe, cheerful, comforting space for them to learn, grow, love and be loved - and that they can find their love of learning once again.
My Project
With distance learning in the imminent future, and the next few months unknown, I am putting increased emphasis on making sure students have access to the content they need both in-person and digitally. We have already had students who have had to instantly transition to a virtual learning model so they can quarantine, so it is important to have these materials at the ready.
Materials that can be accessed both in print and in person will ensure all of my students can continue their learning regardless of the circumstances.
Some of these materials will come from talented TPT teacher authors who have already created items in print and digital versions for students to use!
