This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My classroom is adorned with curious, creative, anxious, eager, and explorative young minds. My students require the basic needs-food, security, freedom, sense of belonging, etc. Providing experiences with varied literature, flexible seating, engaging instruction, care, and compassion creates a pathway for students toward self-esteem and confidence; ultimately, a love for learning.

Many come to school with a variety of needs and challenges but the school provides a safe haven for them.

I count it an honor to work with each of them and witness their growth and development. I get the opportunity to cultivate the minds of our future leaders!

My Project

Reading is fundamental but even more enticing when you have a choice in where and how you enjoy a good read! Currently, my students are choosing to read and work in a variety of locations in our room such as: at different tables, sitting under tables with clipboards, or laying on the floor with a clipboard. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating.

This project will give them access to more flexible and secure seating arrangements conducive to learning!
