Hi, my name is Mr. R. and I teach Six Grade at a school in Illinois. My school is very multicultural and allows me the opportunity to provide instruction to students from many walks of life. Despite this diversity, I have noticed a commonality amongst them, and that is the desire to learn about technology and looking for a connection in what they are currently learning in school. They enjoy hands-on learning and especially anything that deals with computers and/or technology. These students come from a low socio-economic status and the great majority receive free and/or reduced lunch meals. This is one of my reasons for wanting to expose them to many activities that can later transfer into higher-learning as well as be applied to real-life situations. As a result of this desire they have displayed, I was inspired to create a project tailored at providing the integration of technology across all the areas I teach.
The obstacle I am faced with is obtaining all the resources I need for this project with a very minimal budget. Because of this on-going project I am motivated to write continous proposals (geared at the inclusion of technology within the classroom) to request tools that will enhance my students' learning of the technology available today. However, due to budget constraints many of these resources will not be available to my students without the generosity of donors like yourself.
21st Centuy Learning is as the title indicates a long-term project I have created in an effort to incorporate the teaching of technology with technological tools in my lessons. The resources I am requesting consist of five electronic dictionaries. These dictionaries contain the same information a basic dictionary has, except, it speaks the definition requested, serves as a theasaurus and is a technological tool that I think my students will find fascinating. This gadget is not only compact(students will be able to take them to other classes and/or home), but, they also provide students with an alternative to learning. By this I mean searching for their answers through a different approach (electronically) as oppose to book-based learning only. This dictionary will be used in Social Studies, Language Arts and in other areas. It will also be used to compare the definitions provided by different sources.
I am a big believer in technology and it is my belief that it is my responsibility as their teacher, to help them become well-rounded individuals that will be able to succeed and compete in such a global society. It is my desire that once my technological project comes to it's culmination that I will have plenty of resources that will aide my students in their school work as well as in years to come. Thank you for reading my proposal.
