Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My 2nd graders come to school excited to learn! We work together to create a caring classroom community. They are typical 2nd graders, full of energy and enthusiasm. Our K-5 elementary school is located in an inner-city, high poverty setting. All of my students receive free breakfast and lunch. Many of my students speak English as a second language and need extra support to be successful. Our district has been faced with financial difficulties for many years. Despite all the challenges, my school has amazing students and I am dedicated to creating a safe learning space for each of them!
My Project
The use of Chromebooks is a daily activity in our classroom, especially during Reading stations and Math. My students look forward to this time and our online curriculum helps them improve their reading and math skills. Because our headphones are heavily used, they will often have broken pieces or lose sound quality. By having working headphones, my students will be able to focus on academics and not whether the materials are going to work or not.
My 21st Century learners are noticeably more engaged in learning when they can hear clearly through their headphones and see the amount of time they have to complete their work.
We use Chromebooks for many projects throughout the year. My students learn to research, create, learn, interact and so much more through the use of technology. Because we have such busy days in 2nd grade, I need to set time limits on technology use. The large, visual Time Timer will help students with time management. The timer will allow them to clearly see when the amount of time they have on Chromebooks without interruptions by the teacher.
