First grade is a time in elementary school when children are introduced to learning in a way that is very different from what they have experienced before. This is my first year teaching and I would love to be able to support my students in the best way possible. My students are interested in sports, the outdoors and many types of animals. These students love to participate in art activities and are very eager to read. The majority of my class comes from low income families and have not had experiences that foster growth and development in all different areas that are needed at this age. Providing opportunities for the students to be able to experiences multiple aspects and ways to learn are something that my students are in need of. My classroom is a place where they can feel safe, learn respect, kindness, courage, passion, and friendship. Many students only have access to their parents smart phone when it comes to technology. In order to be 21st century learners, they could benefit from updated 21st century tools.
My Project
Updated iPads would provide my students with the ability to learn like a 21st century learner. New iPads would allow my classroom of first graders to explore the world in a way that they never knew was possible. They would be able to learn how to share their work with me, use less paper, video record themselves sharing their learning, and have the ability to explore how to be innovators, creators and leaders in this world. Technology is a part of many child's lives, I am looking to take advantage of that to help them be more engaged in their learning.
Allowing students the ability to learn how to explore the world with technology allows them to compete with those around them.
My students do not have access to technology in a way that the average student in the United States do. In order to prepare them for the world outside of poverty, technology is just one way to help with that. Having a basic understanding of how to work the internet and learn at your finger tips is something everyone should have the right to. This project is one step in the direction of leveling the playing field for the world travelers, innovators, explorers, creators, leaders and life changers in my classroom.
