Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a public elementary school in South Los Angeles. Each of my students is an unique learner with many abilities and some challenges. Every student in my class is on the Autism Spectrum.
My students are developing skills to become 21st century learners and citizens.
My students are highly capable, but need assistance in accessing valuable technological skills. It is difficult for them to use a typical PC with a mouse because they do not yet understand the abstract connection between hand movements with the mouse and on screen movements.
My Project
iPads will open greater possibilities of communication and learning for my non-verbal students, as well as providing expanded learning opportunities for the other students. With iPads, my students can, express needs, elongate and express more detailed communication, demonstrate understanding of new concepts, learn math skills with virtual manipulatives or experience real time science videos.
I believe this project will enhance my students' learning, communication and collaboration.
Use of the iPads will increase students engagement and independent work skills. Students can also use the iPads to document work or accomplishments to share with parents and families.
