Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
If you look up from any seat in my classroom you will see the flags of many countries of the world hanging overhead. My students are a reflection of those flags. Coming from diverse backgrounds and experiences, my students show up to participate in History and Geography through an array activities that promote global citizenship in the classroom and the world.
My students have all the potential in the world to reach their goals, but could use a helping hand to get the supplies in their hands to do so.
They are curious about the world and need ways to open their minds to the potential of life outside of the communities they have been raised in. Education is that place for many of my students and my class is where they can experience the world through literacy, art, language, and technology.
I know my students will all make a difference in the world, despite the challenges and struggles they face, but it sure would be great to see them use the tools provided by you to get their sooner.
My Project
My students have grown up in a digital age where access to technology is a must. There are now resources that are devoted to supporting a 21st century education and I want my students to have access to curriculum that will encourage global competence as well as technology.
Giving my students headphones will allow them to access short videos, audio books, podcasts, and digital movie making tools.
Digital work will differentiate for my English Language Learners and students with special needs. In addition, it will allow access to curriculum that can reach each student on an individual level, instead of the whole class.
In addition, reading books that support Social Studies curriculum is important for students to find value in literacy and make connections to our democratic nation and global issues that arise today.
