We live in a small town in Nebraska. Our school is a K-6 elementary school built in 1975. Our school and community try to be involved and provide as much as they can.
My students come from various backgrounds and have a variety of learning needs.
I have students that are from low-income families, are ELL, have IEPs, and everything in between. The one thing all these students have in common is their willingness to try their best and work hard.
My Project
Currently my students use small rocking chairs and wobbly chairs. We only have 7 and it is a constant struggle about who will get to use these items. I have came up with a rotation system so that everyone can get a turn
It would amazing to have more seating options for students.
I believe this would increase student engagement, which in turn will improve classroom learning.
Classroom stools will be placed around our small group table where students will receive more individualized instruction. Rockers will be dispersed throughout the room during the Daily Five where students have opportunities to practice reading to themselves and others. Clipboards will be utilized or students who are more productive working on the floor. The yoga balls will be used with ADHD children who need more movement to stay focused and engaged.
