Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are so hard working and they always have an upbeat attitude towards learning. They are ELLs, some even newcomers, which they have to work even harder to understand the lessons. They are eager to learn about any topic or lesson being presented. Our school is a Title 1 school, which means most our students are economically disadvantaged, they receive free lunch. Aside from already being a low income community, the students were deeply affected by storm Harvey and suffered major loses. This has caused the students and their families to not be fully prepared with classroom supplies and school related technology at home.
Our students have a desire to learn and succeed as 21st century students.
My job as a teacher is to provide them with endless opportunities to be engaged and help them succeed in school. The students mean the world to me, because I can see myself in each of them. I believe every child needs someone to believe in them.
My Project
My students are very good at using technology, unfortunately we have very limited resources to provide such opportunities. At our campus, we use several computer programs to aid students in their learning. Such programs provide interest and motivation to succeed in academic areas.
We need an Apple iPad to use in the classroom for students to practice educational programs and to be used as a listening center resource.
All of my students are emergent language learners and need a listening center where they can improve their fluency skills. The use of an Apple iPad will benefit their language skills and therefore succeed in their path to immerse in acquiring English fluency.
