Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My goal is to educate 21st century scholars who are in touch with both the world inside and the world outside of school. I plan to give them that window through the use of technology. I service 23 bright-eyed, awe stricken children ages 6-8.

Students need to be able to learn in an environment that promotes individuality as well as high quality education.

Many of the families at our school do not have access to things like technology. Some have never seen a volcano or know that sharks can have hundreds of teeth. At our school, we come in early to meet the needs of those families who work during the day, and we stay late to service those kids who need just a little extra attention. We go above and beyond not just because we want to, but because the children do the same for us! We are located right outside a large city and service the highest immigrant population of any of the schools in our district. Economically 74.2% of our students qualify for free lunch and 10.8% for reduced price lunch.

My Project

My first grade students are Chapelwood Elementary are learning about the real world through technology.

21st century technology allows them to explore things that their minds cannot even imagine.

Students are able to read books from many different countries, they are able to play games that continue to challenge them and, most of all, they are able to connect with students on other parts of the Earth!

This type of connection allows their love for learning to flourish and grow as they continue on through their education. Students are able to have access to things that they are genuinely interested in and this technology has no boundaries for that!
