2024 Speech and Language Therapy Fun!

My Project

My name is Nicolette Ponzo and I am a speech-language pathologist with Chicago Public Schools.

I am creating this project to acquire speech-language therapy materials for students from ages 3-22!

I service students with a variety of needs but I have previously focused on my non-verbal students (i.e. my last project for an AAC charging station). For this project, I am requesting some games to utilize with my articulation groups. I think my students will riot if I try to play candy land again. I also included a learning material from lakeshore that will be super beneficial and hands-on when I do my color unit. Color names are great to target with my verbal and non-verbal learners as the student can label colors on their CORE board, high-tech device, verbal output, etc. I have also requested construction paper to ensure that I have materials for craft activities. This week alone we have done shaving cream snow men (on construction paper) and a sled!

In addition to requesting some art/game items, I have included a new laminator, laminating pages and velcro adhesive. My laminator has served me well but after seven years, it's on its last leg and I would like to continue using a laminator to create adapted materials for my students. The laminating pages are utilized to ensure that these materials are in it for the long haul. I use the velcro adhesive to make the projects more interactive for the students. For example, during adapted book lessons, my students are able to take things off of one page and put it on another. This helps to further engage the students are they are able to more easily interact with the materials.
