This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach a group of 26 first-grade students in one of the cities with the highest crime rate in the nation. All the ​students at my school site receive free lunch. A full 97% of my school's student population are Hispanic students, and most of them are first-generation in the United States. At least 15% of my students are newcomers to the country. My students work hard and they love to practice and learn. School is one of the only places where my students interact with someone who speaks academic English.

Living and attending school in a highly impoverished, urban setting, my students are not exposed to many educational experiences outside of the classroom.

Exposing my students to different types of learning while keeping them engaged and entertained is very important to me.

My Project

As the school year continues, there are more random things that we need for our classroom. We need color ink for our printer; it still works but we are about to run out. I'm asking for an electronic whistle since I need one daily during recess and PE. I had one but it is nowhere to be found. A couple of calendars are needed too so that we can keep track of our school days. I also need some smiley face stickers to continue labeling my classroom library books.
