This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
August 2016: Fresh faces, nervous grins, and lots of lost feet pounded the pavement to make it to class before the tardy bell are images that I recall from my first encounter with the seniors of the Class of 2020. As their class sponsor since freshman year, these extremely one-of-a-kind young people have always held a special place in my heart.
Unique does not describe the Class of 2020 seniors.
These kids have overcome so many obstacles in Miami and have found solace at school. Many of them have maintained jobs, played sports, and found time to stay after school on numerous occasions and take active roles in student leadership.
My Project
These pencils will not only serve as writing utensils for the Class of 2020 seniors, but as inspirational symbols to "never give up", "do things that you think you cannot do", "be good at whatever you decide to do", and "if you can dream it, you can do it".
The Class of 2020 deserves more historically than Covid-19.
Sponsoring this project let's them know that they are not forgotten among the pandemic. It let's them know that global communities still believe that they can be successful in their future endeavors, and they still have a future. The pencils serve as small tokens of encouragement during a time of despair.
