Help me give my students the opportunity to compete with confidence in the 2020 Reading Olympics competition and to be exposed to the quality literature to be successful in life.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Every school has a group of students like us. We are those friends who always have our nose buried in a book! We are those children who get lost in the books we read. We travel to the far off lands, planets and imaginary worlds that we discover in books. You know us. Maybe you were one of us when you were in elementary school? Maybe you are still one of us today!
We are 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th graders on the the Reading Olympics team and we are preparing for a big countywide reading competition in the spring.
We meet every Tuesday and Wednesday after school from 3:45 to 5:15 to read the 40 books needed to be competitive in the reading showdown. We prepare questions about these books and hold practice matches all to be ready to compete with many other teams going to the Reading Olympics book battle.
My Project
We are excited that we earned a second place finish in the 2019 Reading Olympic competition and now in 2020 we are aiming for first place!
Reading Olympics is a countywide reading event, that encourages students to increase the quality and quantity of books they read for enjoyment.
The Reading Olympics Program is based upon the belief that good reading habits form the foundation for a productive and successful life.
All Reading Olympic teams have forty books to read to prepare for the showdown and our team loves to read! During the competition, each team competes in three rounds of questioning with three different teams about the 40 books. We want to show the world our love for reading by crushing the competition.
