As a librarian, I am blessed to see all levels of students during the school day. Students in our school come from many different backgrounds and experiences. Like our community, our school is incredibly diverse. Many of our students come from families who struggle to make ends meet and typically have limited access to quality enrichment activities. The opportunities we provide in the library can go a long way in encouraging students to explore the joy of reading. Reading is the foundation for lifelong learning and the library is the learning center for students to discover ideas, enjoy reading, and become active seekers of knowledge.
My Project
These books will help support the Nevada Young Readers' Award program. It was developed to encourage Nevada youth to read modern works of literature, to develop a love of reading, and lifelong learning habits. In addition, the Nevada Young Readers' Award program promotes a sense of community throughout the state. The winning book in each category is nominated, read, and voted on by Nevada's young readers.
With these books, students will be able to participate in the 2020 Nevada Young Reader Awards’ program.
This program provides students with an opportunity to grow in their reading as well as understand the importance of their voice. Students will be rewarded with treasure chest prizes and a chance to win a free book! This gives the students a tangible goal to work towards and keeps them motivated. Most importantly, it helps foster a love of reading and community!
