This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My scholars are from every corner of the globe and as a social studies teacher, I want to make their learning experience rigorous as well as fun.
My middle school is composed of a very exceptionally diverse socioeconomic background.
Many of their parents speak a language other than English as their primary language. The majority receive free and reduced-price lunch with one or both parents working full time. We also have a large population of special needs students. Many of my 8th-grade students have never been encouraged outside of the school and many of them have not had the opportunity to set goals for themselves because no one has taken the time to guide them. Using positive words and setting goals with them will hopefully lead my diverse group of learners to set higher goals and be successful.
My Project
This year I am at a new school and a very different environment. I want my students to have something tangible to use as a reminder of their dreams and goals. My plan is to incorporate the use of bracelets and keyrings that will have each student's personal word of intention for 2020 stamped into the washer.
The purpose of this project is to prompt positive intentions for my 8th-grade students.
This is made possible by students choosing a word that help them to focus on their 2020 intent goals using just one word. Having students chose their word and build around that word by journaling, drawings, and setting goals. This project is a focal point for my students and being able to see their word on a keychain or bracelet, that they created, will be more personal and meaningful.
I need assistance in purchasing the materials as it may be a hardship for many of my students. I really want to give them this as part of their 8th-grade promotion activities. The paper and pencil component will allow the students to focus on their word every month as well as every day with intention. They will journal the story of their word every month and at the end of the school year, they will have a journal based on their word as well as a physical keepsake that they can have as their keychain or bracelet.
