Everything is new to a kindergartner — new friends, a new teacher, and all the possibilities of a bright future. At my school, my students come from diverse backgrounds and many students speak a different language at home. Many of my students have never attended preschool and coming to school to learn is a new adventure! My students are eager and willing to learn and they are ready to see what the world has to offer them. They will make huge gains this year in literacy, math, writing, and social skills. They are our future!
My Project
My kindergarten students are the first (and hopefully last!) group of children that will start school wearing masks and having to socially distance. My goal every day is to make sure that my students are learning and having fun, despite these new restrictions. Students have to stay 6 feet apart, so we utilize our Chromebooks a lot during the school day. I do not have enough headphones for my Chromebooks though and want to ensure every student has a pair when they are learning on their computer. I also want students to have lots of play experiences. Students can't play in large groups or with lots of materials, due to the materials having to be cleaned. Having a new play item - Magna Tiles - will allow students to explore and create, while also remaining socially distant.
