Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a Title I school where 94% of my students are experiencing economic hardship. Many of the students at my school live in mobile homes and, for some, the only meals they have are the ones provided by our school.
My students come from many diverse backgrounds and experiences.
Many of my students or their families have immigrated here from Central and South America, and some have never attended school when they walk through my door. Together we bring different experiences and cultures to our community. Regardless of their socio-economic status, my students teach me and each other the meaning of love, respect, creativity, caring, and understanding every day.
My Project
My students need SSYRA books for our fourth-grade classroom. These books are limited in our school library. I am asking for 3 sets of this upcoming year's Florida SSYRA books so that my students can reach their goal of reading all 15 books. Student's who reach this challenge get to have lunch with our principal and also are in the running for an end of the year Reading Counts points competition where a group of lucky students gets a field trip to Barnes & Noble and the California Pizza Kitchen. This would be a dream come true to some of my great readers. Please help us be as successful as we can!
